Arthurian legend makes you hungry? And I thought I was food-obsessed.

Well, I could come up with something related to something Arthurian, sure - the tale of Gawain and the Green Knight could provide interesting inspiration for the creation of a salad, while the Sword in the Stone imagery could produce a number of interesting desserts - especially for a family outing.

That said, a big part of me would be tempted to stick with ingredients and styles available in the sixth century, when Arthur supposedly lived, which does significantly limit the available foods and, more importantly, seasonings available to use (for example, anything involving potatoes is right out). Plus, it also does suggest cooking over open flame - while I love the idea, the weather isn't exactly ideal for that around here. It's a significant challenge, but I think I could come up with something. That said, I'm going to want probably a week or two on that. I'm not exactly an Iron Chef or anything.

Hi, Rick,
I love your blog! I had a feeling I was onto something good when I discovered it several posts ago, and you do not disappoint. It's really impressive how you manage to translate pretty abstract ideas (dreams, musicals, etc.) into such apropos food!

I've been thinking about Arthurian legend lately, and it makes me... hungry. I was wondering if you could come up with some Arthurian-related dish the next time you get a chance. (Maybe something relating to Morgana or Morgause-- it's impossible not to be fascinated by Arthur's sisters. But it's up to you!)

Looking forward to hearing how the Christine Daae soup comes out on Tuesday (I love butternut squash!),
